Accomplishments

SPC is proud of our track record of accomplishments. We are a small organization with a vital mission and broad impact.

Helping mothers and babies:

  • More than 400 healthy babies were born to SPC families during the past seven years.

  • More than 500 women received Case Management Services during the past seven years.

  • More than 1000 callers were assisted with pregnancy related questions and service needs during the past two years.

  • More than 100 families received translation services during the past 14 years.

  • More than 1000 women received transportation assistance to obtain health care and related services during the past six years.

  • More than 200 parenting/pregnant women received Smoking Cessation services during the past five years.

  • Through the Baby’s Dresser, over 300 women and children received packages of clothing, layette and emergency supplies of diapers every year for the past seven years.

  • Through the Mentoring Mother’s Program, more than 100 volunteers were trained and linked with socially-isolated pregnant women. Infants born to participating mothers had an average low-birth weight of less than 5% and a preventable infant mortality rate of 0% for the past decade!

Strengthening our community:

  • SPC established a consortium of over 65 health care providers, social service agencies, community members, local businesses, faith based programs and others who work together to address maternal and child health issues. The consortium, in collaboration with the United Way, created the only perinatal depression poster in Suffolk County specifically targeting African American women.

  • SPC successfully replicated the Mentoring Mothers Program in three other agencies during the past year.

  • SPC provided perinatal education and support to over 2500 service providers in Suffolk County through free conferences, workshops and presentations during the past ten years.

  • SPC received and distributed more than 60 new infant care seats to struggling families during the past two years.

  • SPC distributed more than 300 toys and books to needy families during the holidays and throughout the year for the past six years.
